Higher speed limits, lower accident rates

"Driving on the highways is safer today than ever before" despite the 1995 repeal of the old 55mph federal speed limit, "the most disobeyed and despised law since Prohibition."

Though Ralph Nader claimed that "history will never forgive Congress for this assault on the sanctity of human life," death, injury and crash rates have fallen sharply since 1995.
